Solar water heater repairs and installation in Paphos
Almost every roof in Paphos carries a solar water heater, and most of the time it quietly does its job. When the water stops getting properly hot, the tank overflows or the shower pressure drops, we repair, descale and service the system. We also install new solar water heaters and pressure pumps sized for your property.

What is included
- Tank descaling and anode replacement
- Panel and tank repairs
- Correctly sized pressure pumps
Common solar water heater problems
The Cyprus climate is ideal for solar hot water, but it is hard on the equipment. Strong summer sun, winter storms and our hard water all take their toll on a system that sits on the roof all year. The faults we see most often are:
- Lukewarm water even on sunny days, often a tank full of limescale
- Water dripping or running from the overflow on the roof
- Rusty or discoloured hot water, a sign that the anode is worn
- Leaks at the panel connections or on roof pipework damaged by the sun
- An electric backup element that trips the circuit or no longer heats
Descaling and servicing
Limescale is the main enemy of a solar system in Cyprus. It settles at the bottom of the tank, coats the electric element and gradually narrows the panel pipework, so the system heats less water and the element has to work harder in winter. A service involves draining the tank, removing the scale, checking the anode and replacing it where needed, and inspecting the valves, the element and the connections on the roof.
Afterwards we refill the system, check every joint for leaks and make sure the relief valve and the float valve in the feeder tank are working as they should.
New systems and pressure pumps
When a tank has corroded through or the panels are beyond repair, replacement is usually the sensible option. We remove the old unit and install the new one with properly sized pipework from the roof. Many homes in Paphos also have weak pressure at the shower because hot water comes down from the roof by gravity. A pressure pump sized for your property and number of bathrooms solves that without straining the rest of the system.
Before you contact us
Check whether the electric backup switch is on, and note whether the problem started suddenly or crept up over weeks. If water is running from the roof, close the cold feed to the solar system, usually a valve on the pipe going up to the roof. Photos of the tank, the panels and any visible leaks sent on WhatsApp help us understand the job before we go up. You can also call us or use the online form.
Frequently asked questions
How often should a solar water heater be descaled?
It depends on how hard the water is at your address and how much hot water you use. As a guide, if the water takes longer to heat than it used to, the element trips or you hear crackling from the tank, it is time for a service. Regular servicing usually costs much less than replacing a tank that has been left to scale up.
Why is my solar water heater overflowing?
A small drip from the relief valve on the hottest afternoons is normal expansion. A steady flow, or water running at night or in winter, is not. The usual causes are a worn relief valve, a float valve stuck open in the feeder tank, or a faulty non-return valve. None of these fix themselves, so it is worth having them checked.
What is the anode and why does it matter?
The anode is a metal rod inside the tank that corrodes on purpose so that the tank itself does not. Once it has worn away, the tank starts to rust from the inside, which shows up as discoloured hot water and eventually a leak. Checking and replacing the anode during a service helps the tank last longer.
Can you fit a pressure pump to my solar system?
Yes. Many properties have low pressure because the hot water comes down from the roof by gravity. We fit pressure pumps sized for the property and the number of bathrooms, and check that the solar tank and pipework can take the extra pressure, so the shower improves without causing leaks elsewhere.
